Responsibilities
Under the leadership and guidance of the Technical Officer, the APW will work in collaboration with the
WASH sector partners to undertake the following monitoring activities;
 Support the Technical Officer, in identifying areas of improvement made evident due to monitoring
activities
 Support the Technical Officer in preparing comprehensive work plans for WHO led WASH activities
 Consolidate and provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports of water quality monitoring
 Support the production of information products/reports related to water quality monitoring
 Support the utilization of water quality monitoring data
 Participate and assist in WASH surveys in collaboration with sector partners
 Support in providing technical support for water sampling, including collection and transportation for
further water testing in the specialized laboratories.

 Provide technical support in terms of monitoring activities in developing funding proposals and donor
reports
 Undertake any other tasks related to EH /WASH given by the supervisor.

Technical Supervision
The person selected for the APW will work in a participatory manner with the MoH, DoH, Ministry of Water
Resources and…. Meetings would be organized for the person selected for the APW during inception, when
necessary and during the final brief. The person selected for the APW will interact with the MoH officials at
national, governorate, and district levels, including the WHO hubs in the governorates. The person selected
for the APW is also expected to interact with counterparts in UNICEF and the other WASH sector partners.

Qualifications
Language: Expert working knowledge in English is required.
Education: Essential - Bachelors degree in chemical engineering, Environmental Health/Science,
Environmental Health or Health Related Degree
Desirable: Advanced degree in Public Health or related field from a recognized institution
Experience: Essential: At least five years of experience working with government, private sector,
and/or donor agencies in environmental health and/or WASH. OR. Evidence of
undertaking at least 2 similar previous assignments with proven record of competence in
document development.
Desirable: Experience of working in the field of Public Health Surveillance
Skills & Competencies: Essential
Technical expertise in public health surveillance
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Data analysis and presentation
Excellent written and spoken English
Ability to draft reports and other documents in a precise and concise manner.
Skills & Competencies: Desirable
Knowledge of environmental health and WASH landscape in Syria
Demonstrated experience in inter-sectoral collaboration and ability to work with other
agencies and development partners.
Understanding of public health, health or hygiene promotion, community development,
community mobilization etc.
