Responsibilities
Generic responsibilities (max 10)
• Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
Specific responsibilities
• Develop and implement communication projects based on needs of the mission in Damascus and Syria.
• Monitor the impact of the communication project and make adjustments accordingly;
• Develop strong communications products around key priority areas for a variety of audiences;
• Proactively promote, advocate and raise awareness around NRC’s activities, results, initiatives through a variety of communication vehicles (online platforms, use of photos, infographics, social media etc.);
• Explore and utilize innovative and emerging communication tools and new media in support of the communications projects;
• Develop plans for increasing the profile of NRC Damascus mission through, for example, the production of audio-visual material to broadcast and social media; the update of relevant pages on the NRC web-site and other platforms; and the packaging of NRC’s success stories for regional print and TV/radio outlets and social media;
• Any other task as required by supervisor.

Qualifications
Professional competencies
• Minimum 3 years’ work experience as a press/communications;
• You have experience in producing varied communication materials, including film (shooting and editing), audio, photography, fact sheets, infographics, animations, copy editing and archiving;
• You are at ease gathering communication and media content against tight deadlines, supporting, mentoring and ensuring highest quality standards and consistency throughout all our communications and media work.
• You have knowledge of the humanitarian sector (shelter, wash, education, and livelihood).
• You have demonstrated ability or experience in finding new creative media angles and new platforms to present communications work.
• Experience in developing and using a variety of social media platforms

About us
NRC is a non-governmental, non-profit, humanitarian, independent organisation. It provides assistance to people affected by crises & i.e. refugees, internally displaced people, host communities etc. - to meet their immediate humanitarian needs, prevent further displacement and contribute to durable solutions.
NRC was established in 1946 under the name Aid to Europe, to assist refugees in Europe after World War II. After almost 70 years of interventions all over the world, today NRC is organised as an independent and private foundation that cooperates closely with the UN and other humanitarian organisations, around the world as well as in Norway. NRCs funding base is not only diverse but also flexible, counting a number of different donors including the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations. In 2014 NRC assisted more than four million displaced and conflict-affected people around the world, and raised more than USD 250 million for our humanitarian programming. Currently NRC operates in 25 countries worldwide with over 5,000 staff members, the majority of which are national employees. All NRC projects are supervised by the Head Office of the organization in Oslo while in the Middle East, NRC country offices report to a regional office based in Amman. All the programs are implemented in close coordination with governments and local authorities.
The type of activities implemented in each context varies from country to country depending on the needs on the ground and priorities laid out in strategic response plans of Governments and the UN. However NRC mainly specialises in five programme areas: Education, Shelter, WASH, Food Security as well as supporting displacement affected population to access further services. Moreover, extensive expertise has been gained by the organization over the years also on Collective Shelters Coordination and Management.
In addition, NRC provides expertise as a strategic partner to the UN as well as to national and international actors including governments and line ministries- through its stand-by rosters. Only in 2014 almost 600 humanitarian experts were deployed to 49 countries, making NRCs rosters the most used expert deployment capacity in the humanitarian world.
Finally, NRC promotes and sustains efforts at different levels to keep high the attention on the condition and situation of displaced and vulnerable people affected by ongoing crisis.
