Responsibilities
The position
Promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and adolescent girls is central to the mandate of the United Nations Population Fund and at the heart of its work and; both as a stand-alone dedicated area and as a mainstreamed approach.
UNFPA through its supported facilities addresses GBV survivors needs on physical, psychological, and social levels, empowering them and facilitating their successful reintegration into society. Survivors of extreme cases of gender-based violence, who have no alternative refuge, are received at the Family Protection Unit (FPU), which have a shelter that accommodates women and children who have endured various forms of gender-based violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, and rape.
In the light of the above, UNFPA seeks to hire a highly experienced and skilled media Associate to boost UNFPAs Gender equality and GBV prevention and response services including the FPU visibility on social media platforms and enhance the reliable GBV-related information mainstreaming across all possible mass-dissemination media platforms. This will serve as a tool to highlight the visibility of UNFPA interventions, and act as a resource of information for GBV survivors.

Job purpose:
The incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks:
1. Support UNFPA Gender and Communication Units to boost UNFPA visibility and advocacy through:
-Develop comprehensive media campaigns that align with UNFPAs goals and objectives.
-Conduct a thorough analysis of services provided for GBV survivors and available tools to develop a strategic media campaign plan.
-Create the needed social media platforms.
-Implement the media raising awareness campaigns efficiently, ensuring timely implementation and effective monitoring of campaigns impact.
-Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan to promote UNFPA's work in Syria.
-Write and edit articles and other communication materials to promote UNFPA's work in Syria.
-Organize and participate in UNFPAs events and cover the events and activities through high quality photographs and videos.
-Propose up to date and creative ideas using the latest trends in social media tools.
2. Work closely with the UNFPA Gender and Communication Units to identify key messages and target audiences:
-Create compelling and persuasive messaging that resonates with the target audience and effectively communicates the FPU's mission and objectives.
-Conduct audience research to identify and understand the target audience's demographics, psychographics, and attitudes towards domestic violence focusing on violence against women.
-Develop targeted messaging that addresses the specific need, and interests of the identified target audiences.
3. Monitor media coverage and related issues:
-Regularly monitor digital media outlets to track media coverage of gender equality interventions, UNFPA and FPU and related issues.
-Analyze media coverage to identify trends, public sentiment, and areas of opportunity to reflect UNFPAs mandate.
-Any other relevant task requested by the head of the gender unit in UNFPA.

Deliverables:
The Media Associate will report to the head of the Gender Program. He/She will submit monthly reports with full details on implementation.
All activities will be overseen by the Heads of Gender and Communications Units in UNFPA to manage the content, interaction, and impact.


Qualifications
Qualifications and Experience:

Education
-Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or a related field.

Knowledge and experience

-At least 4 years of experience in communications, preferably in an international development setting.

-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

-Knowledge of the Syrian media landscape.
-Experience with social media management.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Having a sensitive attitude towards gender issues is an asset.
-Good knowledge of gender equality, GBV sensitivities and negative social norms.
-Knowledge of the UN system
-Demonstrate skills in communication and teamwork.
-Skills in photography and video shooting

-Strong writing and editing skills.


Salary and Benefits
Contract Type: 3rd party through ICI company.
Level: Associate
Duty station: Damascus,, Syrian Arab republic.
Contract duration: 7 months.
