Responsibilities
o Health Project Management
o Responsible for the supervision and support of the assigned health project(s) in line with the activity plan and time frame of the relevant project proposal and any applicable national and international guidelines and standards in close coordination with the Health Adviser and under the management of the AM
o Conduct regular field trips to clinics and other health facilities for support and supervision.
o Provide input into the integration of beneficiary participation and accountability in all aspects of the project.
o Oversee the process of data collection, collation and dissemination to meet the requirements and deadlines set by Medair and/or external partners.
o Ensure accurate and timely reporting of activities for internal and external reports (e.g. monthly, quarterly and final reports) as requested by field managers, HQ and donors.
o In consultation with the MoH, lead, organise and supervise the teams of community volunteers and build relationships with local authorities, municipalities, schools and the communities.
o Identify and train community volunteers, formulate health, nutrition and hygiene messages and approaches in consultation with the MoH.
o Set up and maintain a referral system in project areas and assist in planning and implementation of assessments and surveys in close consultation with the MoH.

Staff Management
o Conduct weekly supervision visits to the Medair supported health facilities including joint monitoring visits with MoH.
o Recommend any improvements or changes in the supported health facilities to the Health Adviser and AM
o Plan and facilitate training for health facilities staff in close coordination with the health Adviser and MoH.


Financial Management
o Manage the health/nutrition budget for the assigned project(s) as delegated by the Area Manager and ensure all expenses are according to budget and meet the Medair standards with regard to financial management, including accountability and good governance.

Communication and Coordination
o Attend on request by the Area Manager/Health and Nutrition Adviser health coordination meetings on behalf of Medair.
o Refer to the Area Manager/Health and Nutrition Adviser before making any commitment on behalf of Medair whether verbal or written.
o Maintain a transparent, honest and supportive communication structure with the MoH and Medair team and with communities.

Logistics
o Support the logistics activities of health and nutrition projects in close coordination with AM and the Health Adviser, particularly in relation to the purchasing of supplies and equipment for the assigned health and nutrition facilities and activities.
o Liaise, with the health and nutrition, logistics and finance staff to ensure items are procured, transported, stored, managed and accounted for correctly.

Quality Management
o Promote and use the Medair intranet and other operating procedures, ensuring that all standardised formats are used and guidelines are followed.
o Ensure health and nutrition projects are implemented in line with donor proposals and requirements and in accordance with Medair, donor, country and international standards i.e. Sphere and HAP standards.
o Participate as requested in Medair internal workshops and distance learning sessions to keep up with changing trends, new guidelines and best practices

Other
o The post holder might be required at times to perform activities beyond the health specific ones mentioned above, at the request of the AM, to the benefit of the Medair Aleppo base.


Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Clinical degree or diploma (nurse, midwife or doctor), or Public Health degree.
- 2 years post-qualification medical professional experience
- At least 1 year management experience in a health and nutrition context
- Excellent English (oral & written)
- Native Arabic speaker
- Familiar with Microsoft Office programs, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Desirable qualifications:
- Clinical degree with Public Health degree strongly preferred
- Certificate / diploma in Tropical Medicine
- Qualification in nutrition
- Education/training/experience in humanitarian work
- Experience working in humanitarian emergency context
- Knowledge and experience of primary health care principles and management
- Competent with statistical database such as EPI Info, SPSS, STATA, ENA or EPI Nut

The successful candidate must be legally allowed to Work in Syria, need to be holder of fully valid passport for travel to Lebanon/Jordan for training.

This is a position based in Aleppo with possible field visits (subject to staff safety procedures and movement approvals). Working week is 5 days per week, Sunday to Thursday 8:30 - 16:30.

This position requires flexibility with possible travel to Damascus,Der Ez-zor, Lebanon or Jordan for training or meetings.

Planned start date: As soon as possible.

Salary and Benefits
We offer an interesting job with Medair and competitive remuneration. We will offer the successful applicant 3 months contract on current projects inclusive of 3 months' probation period, renewable dependent on both performance and funding for subsequent projects.
