Responsibilities
- Under the general supervision of the Health Project Manager, this position involves responsibility for developing, planning, organizing and, overseeing specialist content of programmes supporting people with physical disabilities, integrated in existing projects and in future expansion
- The national expert will coordinate sector response with other stakeholders and provide technical support to project staff for the implementation of high-quality projects.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

- Consults with relevant Medair and MoH advisors/consultants/managers and any other appropriate stakeholders (eg MOSA, community organisations) in planning, promoting, and conducting programmes to provide and integrate services for PWPD, including physical therapy and rehabilitation.
- Lead Medair’s strategic and practical involvement to develop physical rehabilitation skills and capacities within the rehabilitation service at any identified Medair supported health facility and / or community, also regarding integration of non-health components relevant to PWPD.
- Ensure functioning links to outreach activities and possible mobile teams
- Conducts workshop and in-service training programmes for staff members on activities dealing with physical therapy and rehabilitation that are in line with evidence based practice.
- Evaluates, organizes, and makes available material for educational, teaching, and consultation purposes in line with evidence based practice.
- Develop clinical guidelines, team policies and team processes to ensure framework for good standards of practice
- Develops and maintains a system of adequate recording of meaningful records and statistics.
- Support the Medair team to ensure that the technical decisions and direction of activities are in line with the agreed strategies.
- Represent Medair externally at a technical level with the different players in the physical rehabilitation sector in Syria.

Qualifications
Essential Qualifications and Experience:

Vocational Qualification:
- Recognised degree or diploma in Physical Therapy Or Recognised Medical degree and demonstrable expertise in the subject area.

Work Experience:
- 5 years post-qualification relevant professional experience.
- At least 1 year management experience in a relevant context.
- Teaching experience.

Languages:
- Excellent English (oral & written).
- Native Arabic speaker.

IT:
- Familiar with Microsoft Office programs, in particular Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.


Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

- Experience in delivery of services in support of PWPD.
- Extensive exposure to Assistive technology and Occupational therapy.
- Sound knowledge of multi – disciplinary approaches to rehabilitation.
- Education/training/experience in humanitarian work desirable
Post graduate qualifications in rehabilitation and/or international health.
- Clinical specialisation in rehabilitation areas, such as management of cerebral palsy or neurological physiotherapy.
- Experience managing projects.
- Experience working in humanitarian emergency context.
- Knowledge on policies and guidelines regulating the physical rehabilitation services and sector.

The successful candidate must be legally allowed to Work in Syria, need to be holder of fully valid passport for travel to Lebanon/Jordan for training.

This is a part-time position based in Damascus with frequent field visits (subject to staff safety procedures and movement approvals). Working week is usually Sunday to Thursday 8:30 to 16:30.

This position requires flexibility at times. Travel might be required to Lebanon/Jordan for training or meetings.
