Responsibilities
• Support the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) activities and the implementation of strategies, programs and action plans, in addition to the development of relevant domestic legal and policy frameworks.
• Monitor the developments in the national implementation of IHL and relevant international human rights law (IHRL) norms.
• Maintain relations with academic circles, support the teaching of IHL and develop and maintain a network of partners and contacts linked to legal questions and IHL promotion and implementation.
• Represent the delegation in meetings with external contacts; participates in dissemination sessions if required.
• Advise on socio-political and legal aspects related to the delegation strategy and operations.
• Act as a focal point for missing-persons and detention related laws, decrees, practices and standards by following up and analyzing national and international legal developments related to these activities of the ICRC in Syria.


Qualifications
• University degree in law.
• Master's degree or specialization, preferably the public international law.
• 1 to 3 years of experience in a similar position.
• Fluent command of English.
• Computer proficiency.
• Excellent communication skills in both Arabic and English.

The ICRC works closely and supports the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) organization to provide food, water, healthcare and other forms of relief assistance to people affected by the fighting. The ICRC also visits people detained and helps them to stay in contact with their families. This service is also provided to families separated as a result of the fighting.
