Responsibilities
Generic responsibilities
1. Monitor and support implementation of NRC’s Damascus Protection Plan.
2. Engage with all project teams and support functions to ensure that protection is an integral part of program and support activities
3. Build protection capacities of staff and protection mainstreaming focal points, together with the Protection Advisor and the APM.
4. Participate (with other NRC staff) in field-level UN protection meetings.
5. Be alert to the implications of NRC’s activities relating to principles like do no harm, humanitarian code of conduct.
Specific responsibilities
1. Work to develop and implement the Damascus Plans with all project and support staff to ensure integration of prioritised protection responses in all projects.
2. Work to implement the Damascus Plan with support staff, especially human resources, procurement and safety, to ensure integration of protection mainstreaming responses.
3. Conduct trainings for staff based on NRC Policy and materials, including induction for new staff, and on protection principles.
4. Participate in field missions, when appropriate, to ensure protection principles are considered.
5. Undertake regular structured debriefing with field staff.
6. Work to develop, implement and document a complaints and feedback mechanism for all projects in accordance with SRO policies and share results with the Area and Project/Program Managers on a regular basis.
7. Participate in fortnightly AO Programme Meetings
8. Prepare reports are per need and in coordination with supervisor.
9. Any other tasks as identified by supervisor.


Qualifications
Generic professional competencies:
• Experience working in a humanitarian/recovery context
• Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
• Self-motivated, passionate and ready to inspire others on NRCs mandate and our work in protection and advocacy
• Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
• A University degree in law, social science, political science or related subject will be considered
• At least 3 years’ experience in working on conflict resolution, social cohesion, do no harm, humanitarian principles.
• Advanced computer skills, especially in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic essential and ability to work in English necessary.
Personal Qualities:
• Diplomatic and able to conduct discussions on sensitive topics
• Ability to mentor/support colleagues in relation to do no harm and principles of humanitarian work
• Ability to work under pressure and with limited supervision in a challenging environment;
• Pro-active, goal-oriented and results driven;
• Flexible and creative;
• Excellent communication skills and ability to deliver lively training in English/Arabic
• Ability to multitask and work with short deadlines
• Flexibility and ability to work overtime according to need and requests

About us
NRC is a non-governmental, non-profit, humanitarian, independent organisation. It provides assistance to people affected by crises & i.e. refugees, internally displaced people, host communities etc. - to meet their immediate humanitarian needs, prevent further displacement and contribute to durable solutions.
NRC was established in 1946 under the name Aid to Europe, to assist refugees in Europe after World War II. After almost 70 years of interventions all over the world, today NRC is organised as an independent and private foundation that cooperates closely with the UN and other humanitarian organisations, around the world as well as in Norway. NRCs funding base is not only diverse but also flexible, counting a number of different donors including the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations. In 2014 NRC assisted more than four million displaced and conflict-affected people around the world, and raised more than USD 250 million for our humanitarian programming. Currently NRC operates in 25 countries worldwide with over 5,000 staff members, the majority of which are national employees. All NRC projects are supervised by the Head Office of the organization in Oslo while in the Middle East, NRC country offices report to a regional office based in Amman. All the programs are implemented in close coordination with governments and local authorities.
The type of activities implemented in each context varies from country to country depending on the needs on the ground and priorities laid out in strategic response plans of Governments and the UN. However NRC mainly specialises in five programme areas: Education, Shelter, WASH, Food Security as well as supporting displacement affected population to access further services. Moreover, extensive expertise has been gained by the organization over the years also on Collective Shelters Coordination and Management.
In addition, NRC provides expertise as a strategic partner to the UN as well as to national and international actors including governments and line ministries- through its stand-by rosters. Only in 2014 almost 600 humanitarian experts were deployed to 49 countries, making NRCs rosters the most used expert deployment capacity in the humanitarian world.
Finally, NRC promotes and sustains efforts at different levels to keep high the attention on the condition and situation of displaced and vulnerable people affected by ongoing crisis.
