Responsibilities
The Oxfam’s Gender Officer in Syria provide support and leadership to ensure women’s issues and gender justice are at the heart of Oxfam’s humanitarian response and Minimum Standards for Gender in Emergencies are fully incorporated in designing, planning, and responding to the needs of men, women, boys and girls. S/he will inspire, mentor and support Syria programme staff to understand the different needs of women, men, boys and girls, promote safe programming, and have long-term impact on women’s issues in a challenging context.
• Works closely with Gender Advisor, Programme Managers and Gender Focal Points to develop, implement and monitor Humanitarian Gender Equality Plans.
• Facilitates the inclusion of gender aspects into all aspects of programme planning processes and activities.
• Provides support in mapping of potential women’s issues partners and gender capacity assessment of partners.
• Ensures gender mainstreaming is embedded in all programme activities.
• Co-ordinates and manages training on gender sensitization for staff, partners and other stakeholders.
• Visits projects, monitors partners’ activities and work-plans; draws attention to successes and challenges faced in the programme.
• Prepares monthly reports on programme progress on gender and women’s issues activities.
• Organizes workshops and network meetings for partners and ensure timely and effective arrangements, prepare minutes and its distribution.
• Organizes Oxfam’s gender debates with partners and other stakeholder; documents program experience and wider gender debates.
• Drafts correspondence to partners and maintains a good filing system for gender activities records.


Qualifications
• University/College qualification in the relevant field (e.g. gender studies, social sciences or related discipline) or equivalent experience.
• An understanding experience of working in the humanitarian sector.
• An understanding and sensitivity to poverty, gender and diversity issues.
• Demonstrated capacity of social and communication skills and ability to work with others and as part of the team.
• Excellent grasp of English in written and oral communication.
• Willingness and eager to learn about organizational procedures.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with others.
• Commitment to a rights-based approach, gender equality and protection.
• Ability to work in multi-cultural team.
• Willingness to work in insecure environments and a high level of adaptability and initiative.
• Advanced knowledge and skills in computer usage, particularly MS. Office.
